Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Soon Check; daughter, Kimberly Anast and her husband William; daughter Kassandra Van Brunt; son, Joseph Check; grandchildren Austin & Sophie Anast; sister Marianne Miller; brother, Steve Check; and many other loving family members. Sammartino, Eleanor (nee Dietrich), 95, of Ridgefield, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on April 10 with her family beside her. She was the devoted and loving mother of Bryan Sammartino and Claudia Sammartino, both of Ridgefield, and caring aunt to nine nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles “Sam” Sammartino, in 1956, and by her brothers George (“Tom”) and Vincent Dietrich. She was a founding employee of Stern Brothers department store when it opened at the Bergen Mall in Paramus in 1957, where she worked for 29 years, first in the Art and Needle Craft department, and then in the receiving department and the back office. A life-long resident of Ridgefield, she was a Golden Ager member of the Ridgefield Senior Citizens, and one of the last surviving members of the local Hilltoppers Social Club. She will be remembered most by those who loved her for her generous, kind, and pure heart and soul, her ever-thoughtful and always-helpful ways, her cheerful laugh¸ and her beautiful and easy smile. Celidonio, Alice Bernice (nee Thorsen), of Cliffside Park, NJ, has passed away at the age of 84 on Monday, March 30th, 2015. Alice was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children June Steitz, John Celidonio and his wife Karen, Judy Scalabrin and her husband Ernie; grandchildren Jessica Dodge, Kristen & Shaina Steitz, Ernest John & Rebecca & Crystal Scalabrin and Sara Celidonio; sister Edna Lohmann, brother-in-law Donald Celidonio, sisters-in-law, Rose Celidonio and Eva Biegel, son-in-law Warren Dodge, as well as several nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her husband and the love of her life John Celidonio, as well daughter Jayne Celidonio Dodge and brother Arthur Thorsen. Born in Bloomfield, NJ, Alice spent her school years in West New York before settling in Cliffside Park for the past 68 years. Alice will be missed by many. Celidonio, Robert, Loving Father, Brother, Uncle and Cousin. Long term resident of Ridgefield, NJ for almost 50 years, originally from Fairview, NJ, born in New York on July 6th, 1931, passed away on March 30, 2015 at the age of 83. Robert is predeceased by his wife Mary Celidonio. He is survived by his daughter, Diana Celidonio of Fairview, NJ, his sister Eva Biegle of Toms River, NJ, his brother Donald Celidonio of Manchester, NJ, and his many cousins and nieces and nephews and their children. Robert was a self-employed home improvement contractor. He was a US Army veteran having served his country in the Korean War. He was very active in many clubs and organizations in his hometown of Ridgefield. He was past president of Unico, a delegate for Unico National, member of the Democratic Club, and was past commander of the American Legion Post, Ridgefield and a member of the VFW. He was a member of the Ridgefield Little League, Babe Ruth League, and Post 221 Baseball team in the Metropolitan League. He was instrumental in establishing Columbus Park in Ridgefield, and helped organize the Christmas Tree Lighting. He was also a member of the Ridgefield Planning and Adjustment Board, and also raised money for the High School Band. Murdaco, Anna Lucille, (nee Candito) of Ridgefield, NJ, entered into eternal rest on March 17, 2015 at the age of 91. Devoted wife of Frank who died August 6, 2012. Beloved mother of Francis Joseph Murdaco Jr., of Ridgefield Park NJ, and his wife, Karlene, and Paul Anthony Murdaco of Ephrata PA, and his wife, Valerie. Cherished grandmother of eleven grandchildren and great grandmother of two. Anna worked at a variety of secretarial positions including 23 years in the Fort Lee, NJ Public School System from where she retired in 1986. She was also a member of the Seniors of Ridgefield and very active in the Ridgefield Public Library. Stehnicky, Anna, 94, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Claremont Nursing Home, Point Pleasant, NJ in the arms of her beloved and caring niece, Natalie. She was born in Jersey City,NJ and lived most of her life in Ridgefield, NJ before moving to Claremont two years ago. During her professional life, she worked for Berol Pen Factory in Fair Lawn. Anna was a long-time member of the American Legion. Following her career at Berol, she volunteered for many years at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck. Her hobbies included gardening, dancing, and hosting and cooking for her extended family on all major holidays, particularly Ukrainian religious ones. For many years Anna was a faithful member of St. Matthew Church in Ridgefield, NJ. Anna is predeceased by her parents, Maxsym Stehnicky and Olena (Fill) Stehnicky, and in 1992 by her late husband, William Eich. She is also predeceased by sisters Mary and Vera; brothers Nicholas, Joseph, Andrew, and Peter. Sisters Oly and Natalie, and brother Walter survive her. Surviving also are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Kowatch, Concetta, “Connie”, 86, of Ridgefield, NJ, entered into eternal rest on February 14th, 2015. Born in New York City to James and Chancie Spadola, she attended Walton High School in the Bronx. She was married on June 6, 1945 in New York City to Nicholas Michael Kowatch. She resided in Ridgefield, NJ for the last 58 years. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew’s RC Church, Ridgefield. She is survived by her children, James Nicholas and his wife Theresa of Orwigsburg, PA, Nicholas Michael Jr. and his wife Linda of Ridgefield, NJ and Theresa Danese of Bergenfield, NJ. She was the cherished grandmother of Alison Kowatch Foura, James Thomas Kowatch, Nicholas Kowatch III, Kelly Kowatch, Joseph Kowatch, Daniel Danese, Tyler Danese, Matthew Danese and Ryan Danese. She was the treasured great-grandmother of Gabriella Foura, Julianna Foura, Sophia Foura and Jovanni Danese. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Michael Kowatch who died in 2009, her daughter Barbara Ann Kowatch who died in 1995, and her two brothers, John Spadola who died in 1982 and Louis Spadola who died in 1997. Tooley, Edward, formerly of Ridgefield, NJ), age 80, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 22, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Pauline, his daughters Dona & her husband Jack McNaughton, Cindy & her husband Dayton Pierce, Lisa Tooley, and Cheryl and her husband Roberto Tormo. He was the loving grandfather of seven grandchildren: Jessica, Dayton Edward, Shannon, Kelly, Sage, Marisa, and Robert; and his sister Evelyn Curl of FLA. Lakowic, Richard Adam, 86, longtime resident of Ridgefield, died at the Villa Marie Claire Hospice in Saddle River on Tuesday, with his loving daughters, Cheryl and Jody, by his side. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, having served his country as a sergeant in Korea, and was a longtime member of Ridgefield VFW Post 7502, where he served as commander for several years. Before his retirement, he was employed by the Port of NY/NJ as a superintendent and terminal manager. He was a lifetime member of the Musicians’ Union and played the trumpet with his band, the Dick Lucas Orchestra. He was the founder and manager of the Memory Makers, a group of veteran musicians who entertained at senior citizen homes and other facilities in New Jersey and Rockland County. He was a parishioner of St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, where he served as usher for many years and was a member and past president of the Parish Council. Most recently, he served on the church’s funeral ministry. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan. In addition to his daughters, he is survived by his son-in-law, Steve Kashishian, and his grandchildren, Steven Kashishian, Alyse Mihalik, Laura and Timothy Johnson, and Adam Mihalik.
