Devoted wife of the late William Karadontes who died in 2008. Beloved mother of Polly Murtagh of Long Beach, NY and her husband Chris, Peter Karadontes of Palisades Park, and the late Michael who died in 2011. Loving sister of Penelope Panagakos. Leddy, James, 87, of Ridgefield, died on August 6 at Villa Marie Claire, Saddle River. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Louise; loving sons Michael (Elaine Fine) and Brian (Susie Choi); and loving grandchildren Rachel Raab and Benjamin Leddy. Jim was a tile contractor whose work as Leddy Ceramic Tile may be found in residences throughout northern New Jersey. Jim found his greatest happiness in his family, his work, music (especially jazz), and drawing. He will be forever in his family's hearts. Girolamo "Jerry" Picca, 95, of Clearwater, FL, passed on to be with his heavenly family on July 8, 2015 at Palm Garden Nursing Facility in Clearwater. Jerry was born in Molfetta, Italy in 1920 and immigrated to Hoboken, NJ at a young age with his family. He was a US Army veteran who served in WWII in the Aleutian Islands. Following the war he returned to Italy and met the love of his life, Rena (DiGioia). They married in 1948 then returned to Hoboken to start a family then later to Ridgefield NJ. Jerry worked as a longshoreman in the ports of NJ and NY without missing a day of work. He and Rena enjoyed their early retirement years as snowbirds residing in Pompano Beach in the winters and their home in NJ before permanently settling in Clearwater in 2004. He is predeceased by his son, Gaetano, his brother, Sam Picca, and his sister, Lena Mezzina. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Rena, his son, Joseph, Safety Harbor, FL, his grandchildren Michael (Leslie), Mason, OH, Alexander (Alexandra), Brendan and Sean, NYC; and, his great grandchildren Katie, Sarah and Megan. Sippo, Carmine C., entered into eternal rest on June 18, 2015, at the age of 89. Carmine was born in Roccalumera, Sicily, coming to the US when he was 9 years old. He was a product of the Union City, NJ public schools, living his whole life on Fourth Street in Union City. Dr. Sippo received his EdD degree from New York University after graduating from Montclair State University. In addition to serving as an elementary and high school teacher, Dr. Sippo was a Science and Mathematics Education Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Wagner College. He was Dean at the NY School of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Sippo also founded the Worldwide Medical Education Institute which assisted students in pursuing medical, dental and veterinary studies in the United States and abroad. He was particularly proud of being responsible for the professional education and success of many health-field individuals. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (nee Kruse) Sippo; his sons, Arthur C. Sippo, MD and William C. Sippo, MD; and his daughters, Carole (nee Sippo) Fagella and Dorothy A. Sippo, MD. He also leaves 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Novak, Jack, of Ridgefield, NJ died Sunday June 14, 2015. Jack was born on October 6, 1930 to Thomas and Helen (Barasich) in Hvar, Croatia. Cherished and dedicated husband of 61 years of Lillian (nee Stegos). Beloved father of Thomas and his wife Beth of East Hanover, NJ; Charles and his wife Irene of Clinton Township, NJ; Linda of Saddle Brook, NJ; and the late Elizabeth and John. Jack was a loving grandfather and is also survived by his grandchildren Thomas Jacob, Elizabeth, Alexander and Jaclyn. Jack was a dedicated brother of four pre-deceased siblings (Yvonne of the UK, Franceska, Maria and brother Sveta of Hvar, Croatia), and numerous nieces and nephews here in the US and Europe. He left Hvar in 1943 and lived in a refugee camp in Egypt for several years before coming to New York City in 1946 and meeting his future wife Lillian. Jack served honorably in the United States Army as a Military Intelligence Corporal for two years and saw active duty on the front line during the Korean conflict. After the war, he joined the Heat & Frost Insulators Union and worked as a pipe insulator and head foreman for the Robert A. Keasbey Company for over thirty years, working on powerhouses throughout the New York area. Toward the end of his career, Jack spent extensive time repeatedly testifying in Court on behalf of former co-workers who had been injured by exposure to asbestos and sought compensation for their injuries. After retiring in 1988, Jack was very active in retirement and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends and working out regularly at his local fitness club. He was an avid soccer, hockey and Yankees fan, and enjoyed swimming, strolling the beach, reading, working around the house and managing his investments. Kiviette, Frances R. "Dolly" (nee McColl), 91, of Paramus, a long time resident of Englewood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Born in Fredericksburg Virginia, she was raised on a farm outside of Fredericksburg until her family moved to Ridgefield, New Jersey in 1929. Frances graduated from Englewood High School in 1942. She attended fashion school and became a draper in New York City working on costumes for theatrical plays and special productions such as the ice shows. She married her husband Arthur L. Kiviette in 1957 and settled down in Englewood. She loved foreign travel, history, archeology, sewing and gardening. Predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1992, she is survived by her nephew Walter McColl and his wife Mary of River Edge, and great niece and nephew, Ellen and Kevin. Sammartino, Eleanor (nee Dietrich), 95, of Ridgefield, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on April 10 with her family beside her. She was the devoted and loving mother of Bryan Sammartino and Claudia Sammartino, both of Ridgefield, and caring aunt to nine nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles “Sam” Sammartino, in 1956, and by her brothers George (“Tom”) and Vincent Dietrich. She was a founding employee of Stern Brothers department store when it opened at the Bergen Mall in Paramus in 1957, where she worked for 29 years, first in the Art and Needle Craft department, and then in the receiving department and the back office. A life-long resident of Ridgefield, she was a Golden Ager member of the Ridgefield Senior Citizens, and one of the last surviving members of the local Hilltoppers Social Club. She will be remembered most by those who loved her for her generous, kind, and pure heart and soul, her ever-thoughtful and always-helpful ways, her cheerful laugh¸ and her beautiful and easy smile. Long term resident of Ridgefield, NJ for almost 50 years, originally from Fairview, NJ, born in New York on July 6th, 1931, passed away on March 30, 2015 at the age of 83. Robert is predeceased by his wife Mary Celidonio. He is survived by his daughter, Diana Celidonio of Fairview, NJ, his sister Eva Biegle of Toms River, NJ, his brother Donald Celidonio of Manchester, NJ, and his many cousins and nieces and nephews and their children. Robert was a self-employed home improvement contractor. He was a US Army veteran having served his country in the Korean War. He was very active in many clubs and organizations in his hometown of Ridgefield. He was past president of Unico, a delegate for Unico National, member of the Democratic Club, and was past commander of the American Legion Post, Ridgefield and a member of the VFW. He was a member of the Ridgefield Little League, Babe Ruth League, and Post 221 Baseball team in the Metropolitan League. He was instrumental in establishing Columbus Park in Ridgefield, and helped organize the Christmas Tree Lighting. He was also a member of the Ridgefield Planning and Adjustment Board, and also raised money for the High School Band. Stehnicky, Anna, 94, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Claremont Nursing Home, Point Pleasant, NJ in the arms of her beloved and caring niece, Natalie. She was born in Jersey City,NJ and lived most of her life in Ridgefield, NJ before moving to Claremont two years ago. During her professional life, she worked for Berol Pen Factory in Fair Lawn. Anna was a long-time member of the American Legion. Following her career at Berol, she volunteered for many years at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck. Her hobbies included gardening, dancing, and hosting and cooking for her extended family on all major holidays, particularly Ukrainian religious ones. For many years Anna was a faithful member of St. Matthew Church in Ridgefield, NJ. Anna is predeceased by her parents, Maxsym Stehnicky and Olena (Fill) Stehnicky, and in 1992 by her late husband, William Eich. She is also predeceased by sisters Mary and Vera; brothers Nicholas, Joseph, Andrew, and Peter. Sisters Oly and Natalie, and brother Walter survive her. Surviving also are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Kowatch, Concetta, “Connie”, 86, of Ridgefield, NJ, entered into eternal rest on February 14th, 2015. Born in New York City to James and Chancie Spadola, she attended Walton High School in the Bronx. She was married on June 6, 1945 in New York City to Nicholas Michael Kowatch. She resided in Ridgefield, NJ for the last 58 years. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew’s RC Church, Ridgefield. She is survived by her children, James Nicholas and his wife Theresa of Orwigsburg, PA, Nicholas Michael Jr. and his wife Linda of Ridgefield, NJ and Theresa Danese of Bergenfield, NJ. She was the cherished grandmother of Alison Kowatch Foura, James Thomas Kowatch, Nicholas Kowatch III, Kelly Kowatch, Joseph Kowatch, Daniel Danese, Tyler Danese, Matthew Danese and Ryan Danese. She was the treasured great-grandmother of Gabriella Foura, Julianna Foura, Sophia Foura and Jovanni Danese. She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Michael Kowatch who died in 2009, her daughter Barbara Ann Kowatch who died in 1995, and her two brothers, John Spadola who died in 1982 and Louis Spadola who died in 1997. She loved jumbles and strawberry ice cream. Visiting will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Avenue, Ridgefield, NJ (201) 945-5032. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 AM to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Matthew’s RC Church, 555 Prospect Avenue, Ridgefield, NJ on Wednesday at 10AM. Maginn, Vincent de Paul, of Leonia, NJ, entered into eternal rest on February 6, 2015 at the age of 95. Devoted husband of the late Rosemary Julia Maginn who died in 1974. Beloved father of Dr. Robert Francis Maginn of Bergenfield, NJ and his wife Eileen, Dr. Vincent John Maginn of North Carolina and his wife Jane Pope, and Thomas Michael Maginn of Connecticut and his wife Sharon. Loving brother of the late Eleanor Tormey. Cherished grandfather of Emily, Andrew, Matthew, Christopher, Bryan and Elizabeth. Treasured great-grandfather of Colm, Fionn, Eamonn and Eve Lucia Saraceno. Vincent had been a service representative for Peugeot in Lyndhurst, NJ. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist RC Church, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Leisure Club, all of Leonia, NJ. Visitation will be on Wednesday 4 to 8pm at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Ave., Ridgefield, NJ.
